Choices

By Ken Fletcher

“What is our life? The Bible says it is like a vapor that is apparent for a moment then is gone. That is God’s view of our present earthly life in a fallen world. From eternity’s perspective, this life is very, very brief.

I look back on my life and think, where did the years go? It has gone so fast! No matter what age you are who read this, you will think the same thing too! What is our brief life here about? We can foolishly base our life on temporary things that will pass away. Or, we can base it on something unchangeable.

Our earthly life is the culmination of our choices. One choice effects the next, and the next, and so on it goes. Choices determine our direction and our destination. If you do or don’t like where you are in life, realize, it’s because of your choices you have arrived here. There are many things you could have done but didn’t. There are many destinations you could have arrived. But, you didn’t.

What am I talking about? I’m talking about reality in your life and in mine! Now, living in this present evil world, there are many things that affect us and can push us into certain choices. But, choices are an act of our will. Our will is at the core of who we are in our soul. The wisest choice we can make is to follow the Lord.

Even if you have made a mess of things by your choices, the good news is, from now on, you can be wise in your choices. How does one do that? By seeking the will of Jesus! It means surrender of our own way and reaching out for what Jesus has for us. A choice! A major choice! Our choice! No one else can choose for you! It is your will. It is your choice.

If you are tired of the results of bad choices in your life, you can make a big main choice to give it all to Jesus. Refuse to do things your own way anymore. Let Jesus have control of your direction! Letting Him lead you into His best for your life.

But, the question is, are you going to be hard headed and find out where your own choices are going to take you? Well, I know in my life, it was glaringly apparent that I did not know what I was doing with my stupid choices. I needed Jesus to show me the way through all of this craziness!

When I choose to do things His way, even if I don’t feel like it, just based upon His word, it means I believe Him. And, I do what He says instead. I can expect the results He has foreseen. That is the wisest thing we can do. Go to Jesus with everything that touches our lives. Finding what He says about it. There is nothing better we can do.

Man’s wisdom is limited in many ways. But, Jesus is unlimited in the scope of His view and understanding of our lives–past, present, and future. Why do we not consult Him? Why do we insist on our own way?

Really, in the perspective of reality, we are so very foolish to think we can know our own way. We see and understand too little. We only understand partially. We are blind to the rest. Only with the understanding that comes from Jesus–which means living by faith in His words, can we receive His direction and leading.

We have the Holy Spirit who dwells securely with us always. He leads us into His best. Will we believe Him when He speaks? Will we do it? Or will we choose to do it our way? My prayer is that you will look to Jesus for your life’s choices. If you do, you will end up at His blessed planned destinations.” KF KenFletcher.org
